Our Second Webinar
Reading the Tea Leaves: Online and EdTech Growth and Investments

Morgan and I have scheduled our second webinar for premium On EdTech+ subscribers next Thursday, December 12th, at 11am PST / 2pm EST. The topic is what we're hearing regarding the growth and potential investments around postsecondary online / hybrid education and related EdTech markets, both in the US and Anglophone countries.
Over time we plan to automate the registration process for future webinars, but for the first few events, you’ll need to register at this link. We will compare to your On EdTech+ subscription status on the backend and have a confirmation email and calendar invitation sent.

Clips from First Webinar
To have a little fun, at Kevin Kelly’s instigation I’ve had Eddie AI summarize the main points from our first webinar and create a short video highlighting some of our discussions.

Summary of topics from the first On EdTech+ webinar
Department of Education's future - Potential restructuring under new administration - Unlikely to be completely dismantled despite calls for shutdown - Would require congressional action to eliminate
Third Party Servicer (TPS) regulations - Recently rescinded - Unlikely to return at federal level - Activity likely to shift to state level and accreditors
Bundled Services Exception - Currently remains in place - May face challenges through court actions - Revenue sharing model still shows market demand
Gainful Employment & Financial Value Transparency - New metrics focusing on program-level accountability - Bipartisan support for accountability measures - Major implications for certain programs like elementary education
State Authorization & SARA - Efforts to modify state authorization currently on hold - Could significantly impact smaller online programs - Future challenges likely from state attorneys general
The speakers emphasized that while some regulatory pressures may shift under a new administration, the focus on accountability and student success metrics will continue to grow, just through different venues.
The premium On EdTech+ newsletter is intended for a single recipient with occasional forwarding allowed.
